Maik is the youngest of five children and finds learning difficult. He struggles with dyslexia, suffers from epileptic seizures and attends a special needs school for pupils with learning disabilities.
In eighth grade, he gets expelled, and his hunger for life leads him on a downward spiral—he ends up in drug abuse, crime and, finally, juvenile prison. He falls in love with a Blue Cross worker in prison, but the theologian is out of his reach.
However, he meets another love that completely changes his life. Seven years later, he meets that woman from the Blue Cross again … Maik’s story begins like a drama and ends like a fairy tale, but his story is true.
Today, Maik is happily married with four children. With his wife, Irene, he works full-time for the Blue Cross and helps people overcome substance abuse and leave their old lives behind.
His work focuses on substance abuse counselling, pastoral care, therapy mediation, prison work, abuse and violence prevention in schools, as well as self-assertion training.
